If that's the case set the neck straight since you have no string tension. You want the truss rod engaged, but not enough to introduce a backbow. If you leave it too long in the wrong state it'll be an absolute mutha to fix.

Fantastic thread although because of this thread and the owners club over on MLP I'm now the proud owner of a aged cherry burst. Originally I wasnt sure wether to polish it up or strip it down and do a lemonburst but now I've got it it's too pretty to mess with.

and a family shot with her little sister and her adopted big sister.

It actually looks like even the goldtop has a maple veneer, ebay listing I found today showing a sanded goldtop that has a veneer under the paint?

This is my theory, they just make batches of bodies that are all the same and just spray them whatever color they're spraying that day. I figure, if they're all made to the same standard, there's more flexibility, and they're not paying some joker to make aesthetic choices when they could be doing QC on the other end.

I think that's probably the case too. I guess the only question would be if why they'd not pick from the plain top pile instead.

Actually, this brings up another question - I just realized I don't actually own any Epi plain tops. Are the plain tops also veneers?

Working with the theory (note I have to stress the point it's a theory) if it comes from a line with bursts etc. - it wouldn't surprise me.

You have to figure that if they offered something like the completely made up color of "Bubblegum Burst" and it exploded in popularity because "Squirtgun O'Neil" suddenly blew up with the Zoomers that they'd want to be able to pivot their manufacturing to efficiently meet that demand.

Frankly, (still working the theory) it wouldn't surprise me if they all started with the same LP blanks and the main differences were trim, finishing, and components. There might be something else I'm missing done on the CNC, but that would be handled probably at the same time they carve them for pickup cavities.
