There’s been some nice pies posted, I miss @Stuart, since he added a lot to the old New Thread, so let’s revive it. We had pan fried flounder what was lying flat and live on the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico Thursday and kept on ice until today, roasted Yukon Gold potatoes, and bride made slaw and tartar sauce.

Over the weekend, I made what in culinary terms is called a buttload of red sauce for spaghetti, lasagna, etc., and we had a spaghetti baked dish with lots of Parmesan.

Yup. Got takrout, a Gyro with a side of rice, a "mini" salad (which somehow is the size of two side salads) and a nice piece of baklava.

I think rice is banned the rest of the week though. :laugh2:
I have a recipe for making a gyro loaf that’s pretty tasty. Interested?

Yep, a loaf. You grind the meat in a food processor with the seasonings and let it sit in the frig for a while - overnight is best - then smoosh it all into a loaf pan like a meat loaf. Once it comes out of the oven, place another loaf pan with a weight inside like a small dumbbell or a brick on top to smoosh it further and squeeze out the grease as it cools. I was skeptical, but it’s really tasty. I’ve used beef and lamb, beef and pork, and when my animal cruelty light was flickering, beef and veal. And Alton Brown has never failed me.

I didn't have a chance to cook anything because I was out of town. On the way home there was a Burger King next to a liquor store. I went to both and ended up with a Whopper with cheese meal and a bottle of Wild Turkey 101. Somehow I think I might be regretting these choices tomorrow.

Gyro loaf

Never heard of doing a loaf of it but it makes sense. I usually see that stuff hanging in a cone-shaped formation, but doing it in a loaf pan would probably be basically the same. It would be cool to try doing it on a rotisserie as mentioned in your link. And, yes, Alton Brown rules. I don't know if you've seen the show Hot Ones on YouTube where the celebrity guest sits and shoots the breeze with the host whilst going through a gauntlet of hot wings, but it's great. The one where Alton is the guest is one of my favorites.

I bought a new toy! A lattice pastry cutter & I tried it out yesterday making a steak & onion pie. We had some of it for tea yesterday with mashed potato, peas & onion gravy. :thumb:

I made a small cottage pie with the meat that was left over.
