I bought a new toy! A lattice pastry cutter & I tried it out yesterday making a steak & onion pie. We had some of it for tea yesterday with mashed potato, peas & onion gravy. :thumb:

I made a small cottage pie with the meat that was left over.

I ordered the same rice cooker Raiyn touted. It'll arrive tomorrow. Now it's time to find some cheap but good Chinese takeout places. I've tried nearly everyone's frozen Chinese dinners; PF Chang, Trader Joes, Innovasian, and none of them are all that good. Trader Joes Kung Pao Chicken is about the best but still not as good as prepared Chinese.

Tonight I'll finish up what's left of a Trader Joes meat loaf which is by far the best I've ever bought from a store. Yeah, I could just make one from scratch but the meat alone would run over $5.50 a pound. So instead I spend $7.99 for one that's prepared and I can get two meals and a nice sandwich out of it. Better economics for a single guy like me.

We had a rice cooker for a while, but after it crapped out we found it was just easier to do it on the stovetop. One less thing on the counter or taking up cabinet space. And I wish we’d have gotten a regular air fryer instead of the multi function heavy box (air fryer, toaster oven, rotisserie, broiler, baker, and dehydrator) in which we‘ve only used the air fryer setting. We have fried potatoes in the rotisserie basket, which is a nice feature, but otherwise we could have saved a few bob.

See what happens when you get a new "toy". I am gonna order one though. :dude:
Oh yeah, no regrets though. Still the best $20 of Jeff's money I've spent this year.
I was skeptical, but it’s really tasty.
That may be a thing to try. Alton Brown is indeed - the man.

I'm usually against unitasker kitchen devices, but this one is pretty killer and I'd imagine it will get a fair bit of use and not be a dust magnet.

SWMBO insisted on a Microwave / Convection oven combo so she got one. It's a 1000W unit instead of the 1100 or 1200 watts of the old one - and I can tell.

It's what she wanted though. I had to experiment a bit with the times to get things how I want them to come out. Something that was 33 seconds is now about 44... and I've never used the convection function.

The rice cooker though? it's right up there with my Sous Vide rig.

I found a really nice very compact air fryer Greg. It's footprint is less than 12"x12" and it sit about 15" high w/three cooking racks. It can easily tuck into the corner of a counter top under the cabinets. Not a family size one but large enough for one or two people.

That’s looks proper, and is smaller than ours.

Tonight was roasted pork tenderloins with a spicy brown sugar glaze and stuffing.

Blackened chicken sandwiches with melted Swiss, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles and horseradish mustard on brioche buns. No sides because none were needed.

We use our airfryer all the time and it’s been a real asset.

I was awake a lot last night and bugger me if I couldn’t remember what we had for tea last night!

Sign of the times?

Tonight’s repast is what I call Holiday Sandwiches. Usually it’s turkey, but we’re repurposing the tenderloin from last night, using the remaining stuffing as a condiment on one side, and home made cranberry sauce on the other on toasted bride made bread. A bit of a carb load, but ever so good.

I took the two sisters to lunch by the beach today and ordered the “OMG Burger”.

I was worried about it clearing some of the light fittings as they brought them in but it was beautiful and I ate it all. Roz could only manage about half, but that gets me to the point!

Don’t want much to eat tonight so it’s a pan fried ham & cheese sanga smothered in baked beans for me tonight!

High quality Aussie ham, nice bitey mature cheddar and we’ve got some gooduns and finally a small tin of SPC baked beans. It might be casual but it still has to be right!

This is in the wrong place as I had somehow put a sporting post in the food topic....going batty!

Ian I have to ask, is the LH tray (of pasties) for your missus and the RH one for you?

Once again, nice effort mate!

The right hand tray looks about like what I make for paaties (though much more "pro"). The left hand reminds me of their cousins, empanadas.

Yes she says I make them too big for her so I make smaller ones for her. They were a PITA to make so I got a small pasty maker doodah off the ebay, Dunno why she cant just cut one in half
