Buffalo Wild Wings responded on tik tok (fools paradise ) in a smart ass way. Claiming there's also no ham in their hamburgers and their wings are 0% buffalo. One reader suggested they should have called them "tenders" or "poppers" like so many other(and more honest) restaurants do. You know.... The ones that AREN'T being sued. ;)

But this suit isn't anywhere NEAR as dumb as the one where the old lady sued McDonald's because the coffee she ordered from the drive thru burned her leg when she spilled some on her! Claims the company didn't warn her the coffee was hot!! Well, they never warned me the water I asked for might be WET! Call my lawyer!!! :D

If you've only heard the headline, sure it sounds stupid. If you read the full detail, her injuries were serious and she wasn't the first to incur and report them to McDonald's. I've spilled coffee on myself plenty times, never been burnt.

She suffered third-degree burns (the most serious kind) and required skin grafts on her inner thighs and elsewhere. Liebeck's case was far from an isolated event.

The bottom line(IMHO) is it was her negligence that caused the injury. Even the village idiot would know coffee from anywhere is bound to be hot and needs careful handling.

Anyway, I've read of sillier lawsuits. One in particular....

Back in the '70's a Michigan man brought suit against Bing Crosby because the man, trying to get a singing career started was told by many prospective promoters that he sounded too much like Bing Crosby and the man's suit against Bing was that Crosby was responsible for thwarting his attempt at a singing career.

The judge assigned the case wasted no time in dismissing it.

I agree with almost all of the above posts about wings. They ain't wings unless they are bone-in. And I think if you know what you're doing you can make better ones at home than the horrible takeout places.
Yep, Sweet Baby Ray's Buffalo Wing sauce and a Fry Daddy for 10-12 minutes set at 450* F to a crisp/crunchy with Crisco/similar xegetable shortening. Shake the cooked wings in a plastic tub to coat them, wing fest is on point. It's more a matter of what inflation has driven a family pack of wings for price anymore. I remember the days when you could buy 20 whole wings for around $ 4. Real chicken for about $ 1/lb.

Sure, but I have spilled coffee on myself several times and never been burned by it. The coffee in this case was far too hot, and it caused injury. Like it or not that idiot got 3 million dollars for her injury, and all I got was a few stained t shirts.

This is not much different than if somebody broke into my house and my dog mauled them, they could sue me.

Poor guy. I can empathize. Looking like George Clooney's twin has been blocking my movie career for decades. :D

Also in the '70's in southeast Michigan, a lawsuit wound up angering the public at large. By the later '70's the people of Detroit and Southeast Michigan(mostly Wayne county) had for 50+ years been enjoying the "bulb exchange" with the electric utility known as Detroit Edison, where you could take to a local office(every city and township had one) all your burned out light bulbs and exchange them for new ones free of charge. You could also take in electric devices like toasters, waffle irons, clothing irons, clocks and ect. for repair at a small nominal fee.

In the late '70's a man who owned a small chain of drug stores sued Detroit Edison claiming their free bulb exchange had a negative impact on his business due to him also offering light bulbs, but for SALE, but nobody would buy them since Detroit Edison would give them away for free. He won his suit, and Edison customers had to go to hardware stores or elsewhere to buy light bulbs after that. In my youth many were the times when I'd visit my Grandma who would sometimes give me a bag of old light bulbs to exchange for new ones at the local Detroit Edison office a few blocks from her home. And I too, when after buying my first home in '73, would also exchange old bulbs for new at no charge. Along with many thousands of Southeast Michigan residents. The man's win in court did him no good as it seemed many thousands of people, angered at the loss of the exchange service, went elsewhere to not only buy bulbs, but any of the other needs offered at the man's drug stores. Within a year his business was impacted so negatively by his lawsuit he closed up all his stores and moved his business to Florida.

You only get what you bring into a trip (I "babysat" back in my club days) and if you're in a bad mindset... not good.

Typical Cheesehead. Then again, he'd fit right in as a Florida Man™
Not all that typical. There are good and decent cheeseheads. They're just rooting for the wrong team is all......LOL.

My only question for the Packer organization is how in the hell they continued to put up with yet another drama queen QB playing them like a fiddle year after year just like Favre did?

I won't be sorry to see him gone and quite a few Packer fans won't be sorry to see him gone either but in many ways it would've been much better for the NFCN if he'd remained in GB and kept choking their cap.

They'll get something from the Jets in return but not as much as they'd like and it tough to see them rebuilding around Jordan Love on the fly. I see yet another tear down and rebuild coming for them as well.

I'm not surprised that you think this is true, since this has been so widely misrepresented for years. If you're interested, you can read the details here: https://www.caoc.org/?pg=facts

The woman in question only sued for $20,000, enough to cover her medical costs. When the jury heard all of the facts, including the fact that it was McDonald's corporate policy to hold coffee at a temperature that would cause 3rd degree burns, that the McDonald's quality assurance manager testified that the coffee was too hot for human consumption, and that McDonald's corp was aware of at least 700 previous injuries, they decided to award $3 million in punitive damages. The judge reduced the amount to $600,000, after which the woman and McDonalds arrived at a settlement.

Just a small correction - she did not sue for $20k, but around $968k.

She initially wanted to settle for $20k to cover her medical expenses before suing, but McDs was only willing to give her $800. That's what triggered her and sparked the case. The complaint that was filed asked for (i) $12.5k for medical expenses, (ii) $5k in lost wages, (iii) $100k for body disfiguration, (iv) $125k for physical/mental pain and loss of life's enjoyment (so (i) to (iv) totaling approx. $242k) and (v) an amount of "three times compensatory damages for punitive damages". So the complaint was actually asking for approx $242 + 3 x $242 = $968k.

After she filed, her lawyers were still trying to get a pre-trial settlement with McDs - now with the case filed, they upped the amount a few times eventually to around $300k and even went to mediation. The mediator actually suggested a middle ground of around $200k or so IIRC. McDs wouldn't budge. She eventually got a judgment for $160k of compensatory damages and $2.7m in punitive damages.

The controversy really was that the jury went out of their way to apply punitive damages to punish McDs (i.e. over and above the relief sought in the complaint). The $2.7m ended up being a rough estimate of 2 days worth of revenue from coffee sales at the time. What the press rarely talks about (there may be some articles here and there that did, but definitely not explained well in mainstream media) is that after the initial judgment, McDs filed post-trial motions to complain about the jury verdict. The judge at the time was actually willing to grant a new trial on the basis that the punitive damages were excessive as a matter of law, and gave Ms. Liebeck the choice of either going to a new trial or accepting a reduction in punitive damages of $480k (being 3 x compensatory (i.e. which ended up being $160k) as originally requested in the complaint) - so $160k compensatory + $480 punitive = around $600k. Ms. Liebeck, of course, filed to appeal the decision from this motion as well, but eventually arrived at a settlement with McDs before any further proceedings happened.

And the moral of this story is don't buy your coffee from McD's or your crappy burgers from Starbucks and you may avoid disappointments and serious injury.
In my opinion, it would be better to buy your coffee from McDonald's and your burgers from a bar (which usually do serve better burgers) and sue Starbuck's for the same reason Buffalo Wild Wings is being sued. Long story short.....

For calling the mop water they sell "coffee".

I'll surely agree with you on the bar burgers thing. We've got a place out here in Sedalia south of Denver called Bud's Bar that's famous for it's bar burgers. Small place that'll have a line outside on weekends of people waiting for a place to sit. Single or double burgers and cheeseburgers is all they serve. No french fries just chips.

I make my own bar burgers at home. Smashed down and thin with cheese and grilled onions. Heinz 57 for a condiment and a side of onion rings.
