I'm loving this year's NCAA tourney so far. Several big upsets.

There's just something about seeing a small school from out of nowhere knock out a powerhouse college that produces NBA talent on a regular basis. Most of these kids on the 'Cinderella' teams know they aren't gonna be professional players. They have nothing to lose whatsoever and they leave it all out there. There's always a puncher's chance. That's what's so great about sports.

EDIT: I'm talking about basketball of course. I couldn't think of a worse punishment than having to sit through a women's hockey game. Wtf y'all? To each their own I guess.

Beg pardon? Some of us come from where hockey for either gender is a big deal. The U of W also has had top men's sports teams in hockey, football, and basketball falling just short of a national championship in 2015. Hockey is hockey and it's actually kinda nice to watch it on a level lower than the NHL where at times is also MMA on ice.

Men's team got buried this year. Not a good year at all. UW doesn't dominate any longer like they could do back in the 80s when I lived there.

You're actually correct about that. I've also never eaten monkey brains but I'm not about to do that either.

Look, I get it. My 'edit' comment was meant to be humorous.

As a matter of fact, I've TRIED to like hockey many, many times. I've actually been to a couple Predators games and, while it's pretty dope when you're there in person, I just can't get into it as far as watching games on tv and whatnot. I'm not sure why, since I like most other sports, but it's just never clicked with me. Kinda like brussel sprouts, I know I don't like them but everytime I'm at someone's house for dinner and they make them, I always try them again but still with the same results no matter how they cook them. As I said, to each their own.

Awesome. I roomed with a hockey player in 1991-92. I got hooked on watching them play over the next couple of years. Kent State was independent, but played good competition. I got to watch them play Notre Dame, Lake Superior, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Miami (Ohio) ...

Televised hockey, and even hockey in a big arena, just never lived up to the intimacy of a small college arena.

Big screen TVs have made it better but your right. Nothing beats being there. I recall SRO games in Chicago when the Hawks played in that old barn of the Chicago Stadium. And then there were semi-pro games in Green Bay with the Bobcats who had several players from the 1960 Miracle on Ice. The Badger Games in the Dane Co Arena w/ guys from the 1980 Miracle on Ice team. Hockey's a blast to watch live.

The 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup will be in the West Indies and the US was supposed to host some matches. But I've read that the US cricket organization was stripped of its hosting rights for reasons that weren't stated in the articles. Having said that, I don't know if we have any stadiums to host a cricket match, as the oval is larger than a baseball field (not to mention shaped differently).

I'm not a cricket fan, but I know most of the rules and I do find it more entertaining than baseball.

Re: Hockey. I can't see the puck. I have to infer its location by from the players and the sticks. But when I did watch a few games, I preferred the less pugilistic forms of the sport to the NHL.

The Bulldogs didn't do much this year either.

It came off as tone deaf at best.
I've made comments about basketball not really being my thing; and that was the end of my commentary on the sport. I wouldn't go so far as to disrespect the women's division of a sport I wouldn't generally watch regardless of gender.

The only comparison I can make, having experienced both, is to football in Texas. The Minnesota High School Hockey tournament is televised statewide (from the MN Wild barn) and it's always good.

Well, it's a bit different trying to fight someone wearing a full cage. 🤪

But you're absolutely right, it's the same game from Ice Mites on up. The main thing that changes as you level up is the speed. The women are fully capable of laying the smacketh down and zipping around on scoring drives.

The AFL season is in round 2 and our team Collingwood has scored some impressive victories so far. We watched 2 games yesterday and more today. It’s waaaay more entertaining than anything else on TV here ATM.

The University of Minnesota Gophers have advanced into the Frozen Four.

I would have been good with either of these Minnesota squads advancing, but it's fitting that the top ranked Gophers advance.

I will say that Motzko needs to instill a bit more discipline into his squad as they took a bunch of bad stick penalties throughout the game. They have an undeniably talented roster, but talent does you no good riding the pine in the sin bin.

Go Gophers!

Now who's it gonna be? Quinnipiac is up currently over Michigan.

According to Daniel Wilco of NCAA.com, the odds of filling out a perfect bracket are approximately one in 9 quintillion.
So you're saying there's a chance! :naughty:

Haven't watched hockey in decades and didn't know that Quinnipiac is D1. I'll have to find my old Gopher T-shirt for the final.
