Nice ballad but find myself wishing the lead vocals were more on the soulful side and less "airy". It would give it more "power". Be interesting to see another artist tackle it with a different arrangement.
Even buried among late 70s and early 80s pop rock something about their musicianship always stood out. Once I learned who the players were it was obvious why they sounded different. Great musicians.
Damn, I recall this one from my bar rock anthem days. Donnie Van Zants band. Tried doin' some of their stuff, Hold on Loosley, as I recall but it just never clicked with us. Popular band for awhile though.
Bassist is playing a Travis Bean bass with an aluminum neck. God those things were horrible if you lived in a colder region like I did. They were heavier than hell and wouldn't stay in tune.
Co-written by Jim Peterik same guy who wrote and sang Vehicle by the Ides of March. Looks like him playing the piano on this one. The irony of this is that he also co-wrote those .38 Special tunes So Into You and Hold On Loosley and a few other we've all hear before.
Rocky made this song a major hit. I always thought it might be a fun song to do but we never had anyone with the vocal range to sing it. I did do Vehicle for quite a few years though.
