Do you find that Internet forums induce not only GAS, but also its related condition buyers remorse.? This morning, I jumped on the Epi Wildkat Red Royale that MF had as the SDotD. I have played Wildkats before and liked them. I have researched Epiphone hollow bodies and found that most find them to be good values. I like P90s and don't have a guitar with them. I feel that of all the guitars that I have gotten rid of, a MIK Dot is the one that I miss the most. But, the reason that I got rid of it was that I disliked reaching around that large body. I also really like Epiphones without a direct Gibson analogue. So, a Wildkat in bright red for $299 would seem to be just the thing. So I bought it.

Now I have buyers remorse. Since it has shipped (the point of no return so to speak), I have done nothing but research the model. In that process, I find a bunch of discussion related to cheap wiring that results in muddy pickups and a solution that requires completely rewiring the guitar. The majority of that discussion was on TDPRI, where anything darker than ice pick twang is deemed muddy and that the guy that proposed the solution sells high-end guitar wires. But, now no matter how it sounds I will hear it as muddy.

yYES----I also find researching an ailment online will in a few clicks convince you its a brain tumor and you have 3 hours to live...........

I had a WIldkat---- a "Stamped" factory second TBTH and its a fun and REALLY groovy guitar the Bigsby is a blast the tone is great the P90's are AWESOME .....only reason I don't STILL have it (I do miss it ) is a friend had a BRAND NEW (non seconds) Epi SG EB3 in deep rich cherry finish WITH hardcase (no hardcase with the Wildkat) and he wanted an EVEN UP trade.......I HAD to-------

Relax......look at the pics on line watch the videos and make your own opinions when you get it.

I recently purchased ON FAITH an Agile P90 loaded LEster Copy ---never laid hands on one----the internet BLASTS them ---Scott Grove HATES them--- I kept an open mind---got a great close out deal--- and a week later I am THRILLED with the guitar---the customer service---the entire experience.(but I did bite my nails a bit and have some remorse right after pressing "buy it now" :( ) Nature of the beast I think.

Relax----Enjoy (they really are cool guitars----and ALL YOUR FRIENDS are going to want one)

I wouldnt worry about it. You'll never get ice pick twang with a P90 anyway. The Epiphone wiring isnt always top-notch, but usually adequate. These are budget guitars, after all, and the cost cuts have to come from somewhere. It may take some amp adjustments to find the sweet spot.

I have also been "talked in" and "talked out" of guitars by looking to deeply, reading and researching to deeply and been swayed by popular or indeed unpopular opinion.

Your initial reasoning for the purchase is sound. As such get her in, play her and enjoy. If after you've decided yay or nay then look at flipping etc

The negative seed is however a difficult one once it's planted. Fight it and enjoy

I enjoy mine quite a bit. I tweaked the pickup poles a little and just use my eq with a little more treble than with my other guitars. Other than that, I love my wildkat. I did change to a tusq nut and a roller bridge. After a few weeks of use all tunning issues were resolved. That is a sweet looking color on that guitar. Enjoy!!!

You were on a forum that is loaded with some very biased people. I wouldn't judge a guitar based on someone else's opinion. I would wait and judge it yourself after it arrives. I never let anyone else's opinion on the guitars I own sway how I feel about them. If you like it, it's all good.

I saw that SDOD and if I hadn't just bought my new Epi 339 Pro would have jumped on that Wildcat. It was a great deal and P-90's are great. There is no way a P-90 is going to be ice picky. (That statement from someone on a Tele forum? Really?)

I picked up an Epi Special 1 with P-90's at a local pawn shop last fall, sounds great, No way the P-90's could ever be considered icy picky, just the opposite very warm. I like them a lot.

Enjoy the new guitar and the great deal on it.

I lucked on on that Special 1. Got it for $70 including tax. It was like new, still had the plastic on the back cover, action, intonation and neck relief were perfect. It is the worn black. Would have preferred the worn red, but at the pawn shop you have to take what they have. Still a fun guitar and sounds good.

It's been my experience with any new guitar that I find it overwhelmingly pleasing from the word go. Then, after a few weeks, the modder part of me kicks in and I try to find ways to make the guitar sound more better. The guitar was great, now it's mine.

I've thoroughly enjoyed P-90's that have been made in Korea and China. I've played some Eastwood Moserite knock-offs with them, and loved them. A P-90 is a really big singlecoil, and they're pretty hard to f*%# up. Enjoy the guitar. My tech guys prefer some of the MIK and MIC P-90's over Gibson P-90's in fact. Any epiphone sounds good, and is a great platform for mods.:thumb:

Most forums out there are held together by a sea of 1-uppers, and people who are never wrong. It's easy to hide behind a piece of technology, nay say everything, piss all over someone's parade on a NGD, and LIE about guitars they own, and lie about guitars they will never own. I personally question anyone who claims to have a sea of Customs or R9's, and the amp in the picture one expensive guitar is a Fender Mustang or Line 6. You've got 30 guitars you paid over 5 grand for, but you're using a $500 amp you bought on eBay?:hmm:

I've actually found Epiphone stock P90s to have less bass and lower mids than Gibson P90s. ANd Gibson P90s are not muddy. But really, play with the pole pieces IF they don't sound how you like.

Worse case if you DO decide to swap pups, is to just cut the leads near the pickups and solder wire to wire, and shrink wrap over. Means useless set of removed pups unless you want to solder new leads on to the coils. But it does beat working through the F holes . DId that once, never again.

But try them first, and adjust the pole pieces as needed. As mentioned it is hard to F up P90s. One can over pot them, or use real crappy ceramic mags instead of good ceramic or Alnico. But new Epi pups are really pretty darn good.

Well now you've ruined Christmas for me!

But seriously the newer Epi P-90s are quite good. I'm VERY happy with the ones in my Epi SG.

Pretty much everything has been covered but my favourite guitar styles are Les Pauls and Teles; there is no way I would think of the P90's in my '56GT or Casino as ice picky. Snarl, grit and lots of attitude for sure but I've never had to fight them like I sometimes have to fight with my Tele bridge pups.
